Cigar is my new favorite band I’d never heard of.
In my defense: I kind of stopped “discovering” (i.e., caring about) new music somewhere around ’99. (There’s exceptions, of course.)

I once attempted—and I’m definitely not the only one—to do something similar in Pure Data/on a Raspberry Pi. Check out the demo, too. Like, not saying these will outrival classic stompboxes (or VST effects) anytime soon, but it’s darn cool nonetheless.

“Re-Mapping Midi Notes - Drum Pads in REAPER”
I’m really going to have to address my auto-tagging “listens.” Right now, I’m running a small mu-plugin that tries to match songs against the MusicBrainz database, all while I have mostly correct genre information in my own, albeit outdated, “music database.”
Spent an hour or two writing a (basic) WordPress plugin that consumes “audio scrobbles,” like those sent to Last.fm. So rather than (share my data with a third-party service and then) use their API to display a widget or whatever on my blog, my CMS itself is now the “audio scrobbling” endpoint.

That’s what punk represents to me—youthful energy[.]
People can say, “Oh you’re kind of doing a nostalgia trip.” But to me, it’s not nostalgia—it’s the inherent energy in the music that gets me up in the morning. You could never call that nostalgia. In fact, it’s my lifeblood[.]

Love this. (Been obsessing a bit with ’80s music lately. Thank you, Turbo Kid.)

.Was able to create a surprisingly complete list of shows I’ve ever attended, mostly from memory, old emails, and some googling. A few Facebook and other web pages with old flyers came in handy, too—visual memory much? There’s at least two, and probably more, gaps, but still.
